The road goes ever on and on...

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.

John Ronald Reuel Tolkien, perhaps the smartest man that ever lived, penned these words a long time ago. But the truth that lies in the verse speaks more to my soul now than it ever did before. There is a new road that lies before my wife and I. We are pursuing the road to Catholicism with eager feet.

Before, we were considering becoming Catholic. Now, we are becoming Catholic. It is no longer a question of 'if.' This has not been an easy decision by any means. Most of the friends and family that we have are devout Protestants (some of you reading this are perhaps those friends and/or family). We are not quite sure what to expect as a reaction from those that we've loved and journeyed with, but past situations have given me some hints. I hope for the best and wish that this news will not be what I fear it may become for some people; bad news.

There have been several books and authors that have guided us on this journey. If you would like to investigate some of the findings that we have encountered please read anything by Scott Hahn (a former Protestant and now converted Catholic) or any of the following books:

Mary and the Fathers of the Church by Luigi Gambero
Signs of Life by Scott Hahn
Hail, Holy Queen by Scott Hahn
What Catholics Really Believe by Karl Keating
Catholicism and Fundamentalism by Karl Keating
             Orthodoxy by G.K. Chesterton
If you have questions (and I know that you probably do), please do not hesitate to ask. Our lives will continue much the same way as they have always done so. The only change will be in the way that we worship our Creator and Lord. We are excited about the road ahead and we look forward to the next unexpected bend in the road.
Mark
